UNAN International Peace Day 2016 | Diplomacy Opportunities

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals is a necessity if we must achieve community, national and global peace since development and peace are interdependent and mutually reinforcing.  Modern challenges of poverty, hunger, diminishing natural resources, water scarcity, social inequality, environmental degradation, diseases, corruption, racism and xenophobia, among others, pose challenges for peace and create fertile grounds for conflict. Sustainable development contributes decisively to dissipation and elimination of these causes of conflict and provides the foundation for a lasting peace.

The United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNAN) is commemorating the 2016 International Day of Peace in Nigeria to create awareness on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its role in building peace. The theme for 2016 international Peace Day is “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”
