Insight Global Education International Program Coordinator | Diplomacy Opportunities


Insight Global Education is a Vancouver-based social enterprise that designs and facilitates unique educational programming for North American secondary and post-secondary students.

Presently, Insight is expanding its longest-running program, the Semester in Development (SID) based in Kampala, Uganda. For that purpose, we are looking to hire and train a new team member, who will eventually become a program director in one of our new countries of focus. We seek a highly motivated individual who is passionate about international development and education. The program coordinator will contribute to the growth of the SID in Kampala, and will work directly with the program director, learning how to effectively plan and deliver the Semester in Development program. It is our intention to find the right candidate, who can excel in this position, transitioning to become a program director in a new country of focus (Fiji).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist program director with preparations/facilitation for what will be Insight’s largest sized SID program (Summer 2017)
  • Assist with program operations in Kampala
    • Planning and logistics
    • Management of program participants
    • Plan and execute program activities
    • Act as a facilitator/leader
  • Work with program director to develop strategies for program enhancement before, during and after the program
  • Develop strategic program partnerships
  • Present program to a wide variety of audiences (participants, parents, potential applicants, potential partners, etc.)
  • Communication and marketing
    • Emails
    • Data entry
    • Social media
    • Blog posts, and more

  • ­Based on experience/education – will be evaluated on an applicant basis depending on the qualifications
  • $1000 USD per month during probationary placement in Kampala, Uganda. The position will transition to a full time salary, comensurate with skills/experience and success during the time spent in Uganda.
  • International flights (to/from Uganda), stipend, and accommodation paid for by Insight, as well as all other additional international and domestic travel required, including to Fiji, Canada and other program destinations
  • This position has the potential for contract renewal and upward mobility, based on performance, upon conclusion


  • Canadian citizen, or eligible to work in Canada
  • Willing to consider other nationalities for outstanding candidates (Note: you must meet/exceed below criteria, regardless of citizenship)
  • If you are currently eligible to work in any of our countries of focus, we’d encourage you to reach out
  • Willing to relocate first to Uganda (3-5 months), and then to our next posting (potentially Fiji), or, relocating to Canada, or staying in Uganda – Must be flexible
  • All travel will be provided by, and you will be brought back to Canada throughout the year, schedule depending
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field (international development, political science, gender, economics, etc. – graduate degree a plus)
  • Experience living/working in a developing country (demonstrated work experience in international development or education with an emphasis on the global south/development will be a strong asset)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable understanding of the UN’s SDG’s, as well as core themes in international development, human rights, and sustainability
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, social media platforms (experience using Hubspot, Photoshop, WordPress and other platforms, an asset)
  • Flexible, easy-going individual with strong leadership skills
  • First-Aid or advanced wilderness training
  • Demonstrated experience working with students/youth in a leadership/facilitator role

This position is initially based in Kampala, Uganda. However, you must be eligible to work in Canada in order to be considered for this role.
