Nepali Emerging Leaders Program | Diplomacy Opportunities

The “Nepali Emerging Leaders Program”, a partnership of the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego and the Leadership Academy, will offer you the opportunity to accelerate these efforts and create greater impact with your work.

Through training in topics like listening and communication, media engagement, soliciting community feedback, and facilitation, you will be better prepared to effectively work with government institutions and your community. During the program, you will have access to a team of experts who will provide you personalized support in your efforts. You will also be paired with a senior-level mentor who will offer you advice and guidance to make your work more impactful. Additionally, with participants from all 14 zones of Nepal, the program will give you the opportunity to connect and work with fellow emerging leaders from across the country.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

(6) Recommendation Letter – 2 required, 3 preferred (Nepali or English)

 

PROGRAM TRAINING LOCATIONS:

(1) First session: Kathmandu, 2-3 days + travel time
(2) Second session: Lumbini, 2-3 days + travel time
(3) Third session: Dolakha, 2-3 days + travel time
(4) Fourth session: Pokhara, 2-3 days + travel time
(5) Skype/Online meetings: 3 times during the year
Note: Sequence subject to change. Advance notice will be given as to session locations and dates.

AGE-GROUP:

Minimum 25 years old while applying, and maximum of 40 years old by the end of class tenure. For example, the candidate should be born on/before 01st August 1992 (2049-04-17) & after 30th August 1978 (2035-05-14).

QUALIFICATIONS:

(1) Minimum of Grade-12 pass.
(2) Demonstrated leadership skills and/or potential leadership in their community.
(3) Recommendation letters – 2 letters are mandatory while 3 is preferred. The language of recommendation letters can be Nepali, English, or a mix.
(4) Willingness to travel to 4 locations during the year-long program, locations – (i) Kathmandu, a village/town in – (ii) Terai, (iii) Hills, and (iv) Mountain region.
(5) Willing to commit the time to the training – travel to the four locations which will be 2-3 days of training, and the travel time. Available for Skype/Online class/training and interactions.
(6) Selection will include 1 male and 1 female from each of the country’s 14 Zones for a total of 28 participants.

ASSIGNMENTS:

Between in-person sessions, participants will be expected to complete assignments which require application of the classroom learning. Assignments will be practical in nature and will allow participants to advance their own work and leadership by applying skills and content knowledge developed during sessions.

LANGUAGE:

Nepali will be the main medium of communication. Nepali-English & English-Nepali translation will be available while interacting with the trainers and mentors from the U.S.

FEES:

Full scholarship for tuition, as well as road round-trip from trainee’s hometown to the location of training, a basic accommodation and meals during the training is provided.

CERTIFICATE:

Certificate will be issued from Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice (University of San Diego) USA, only for those attending all the 4 locations trainings during the year, and all the 3 skype/online meetings/classes. In order to qualify for the Certificate, trainee needs to complete all course assignments to a satisfactory level.
