British Council and United Nations Association of Canada Active Citizens Workshop 2018

British Council and United Nations Association of Canada Active Citizens Workshop 2018

Developed by the British Council and delivered in partnership with the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada), Active Citizens (AC), formerly Active Citizens Social Enterprise, is a social leadership programme designed to help young people develop the soft skills required to better understand and address the needs of their communities through social innovation.

Interactive and participatory, AC workshops bring together motivated social innovators for a three-day intensive workshop, during which they explore the topics of identity, intercultural dialogue and community-conscious social entrepreneurship as a means of addressing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level. Active Citizens workshops encourage participants to take responsibility for their communities’ needs and gives them the knowledge, skills and experience to address them creatively and effectively.

This year’s workshops will take place in St. John’s and Toronto. After successfully completing the workshop, 15 participants will be selected to pitch their ideas at the Youth Innovation Summit in March 2019. At the summit, selected Young Innovators will have the opportunity to showcase their work and exchange with peers, members of the social innovation community and high-level representatives from the Canadian Government and private sector.
