Germany Youth Delegates for Sustainable Development

Germany Youth Delegates for Sustainable Development

As youth delegates for sustainable development build the bridge between young people in Germany and the world community. In New York, they interfere, make suggestions, ask questions, and influence governments’ negotiations. In Germany, they talk to young people about how sustainable development is, what governments can do, and how everyone can become active.

Together with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the German Federal Youth Council selects two youth delegates. They represent young people from Germany at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The youth delegates are part of a delegation of the Federal Government. They work closely with the BMU during the days in New York. At the same time, they formulate expectations for governments and the United Nations with youth delegates from other states – regardless of the negotiations of the Federal Government. In preparation for the High Level Forum, the Youth Delegates speak with young people and with experts on sustainable development from civil society organizations. They bring in the view of young people at events, to which they are invited. They organize workshops and give lectures – if the time in study or profession allows it. If necessary and meaningful, they participate in international meetings of other youth delegates or networks.
